Tirtha Dasgupta

He started his photographic journey as a freelancer. In 1977 he joined as Scientific Photographer in the Forensic Science Laboratory, Calcutta. After a one year stint in industrial and mining photography at the Hindustan Copper Limited, he returned to scientific photography in 1985 with IARI as Photo Officer. At IARI he was also teaching Photography, Photojournalism, and Visual Graphic Communication to M.Sc. and PhD. Scholars.  He has superannuated from his service as In-Charge, Central Photo Lab, IARI in 2017.

His works has been exhibited in International Salons over 35 countries and won him more than 1000 Acceptances, Awards & CMs. He has also been awarded by the Sahitya Kala Parishad in 1989 and 1992. He has earned the LRPS, UK in 1982, the LIIPC in 1987, the AIIPC in 1990. In 2002 the FIP conferred him the Fellowship. In 2010 he earned the ARPS, UK and AFIAP, France. In 2011 his continued service to photography had been dually acknowledged by the Photographic Society of America by conferring on him the APSA Honor. In 2012 he earned the EFIAP. In 2015 he earned the FBPS, Fellow of Bangladesh Photo. Soc. During 2016 and 2017 he has been conferred with Hon.FSoF, Fellow School of Fototechnik, Hon.FSAP Fellow Sigma Art Photography, Hon.FPSNJ Fellow Photo. Soc. of New Jersey, USA, Hon.PESGSPC, Pascal English School Greek School Photography Club, Cyprus, Hon.FICS, Fellow Image Colleague Society, USA, AISF, Artiste Image Sans Frontiere, France, Hon.EFMPA, Excellence Federation Multi-Cultural Photographic Art, GPA.PESGSPC, the Grand Progress Award of PESGSPC. In 2019 he has been honored as Fellow of the Photographic Society of America and thereby he became the first Bengali to hold the FPSA Honor. In the year 2021 he has been awarded the G.APS - Genius of Agile Photographic Society, Bangladesh. The Photographic Society of America has declared him as the “Membership Director of the Year 2021” and in 2022 he has been conferred with the PSA “Service Award” for his significant service to the Photographic Society of America. In 2023 the Pharaohs International Photographic Club of Egypt conferred him the PIPC Honorable Grand Master Distinction, Hon.GMPIPC and the New York Photo Association has conferred on him the Honorary Fellow, Hon.FNYPA.

He has volunteered his service as Hon. Jt. Secretary, Chairman Salon Recognition Division, Chairman Members' Meetings of IIPC, and as the first Chairman of the Digital Imaging Division of IIPC. He served in Organizing Committees of Workshops, Seminars, and Salons. He serves as Jury in Contests & Salons. His academic interest reflects form the presentations he makes in Workshops, Seminars and Conferences. He is credited with invitation Lectures. He has also published many articles on photography. He was a regular contributor in the "Let's Go" travel magazine and on the advisory panel for this publication. He is the Founder Director of School of Fototechnik, New Delhi. He is a guest lecturer at the National Institute of Criminology & Forensic Sciences, Govt. of India, NIFT, Govt. of India, SOC, New Delhi, IILM, New Delhi, NMI, Min of Culture, Govt. of India, New Delhi, IIMC and Photo Division, Min of I & B, Govt. of India, New Delhi, IILM School of Design, Gurgaon, Academy of Visual Media, New Delhi, FMCC, New Delhi, Guru Govind Singh College of Commerce, New Delhi, NRLC, Lucknow, Govt. of India, School of Professional Studies, University of Allahabad, Forensic Science Department, Punjabi University of Patiala, Center for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi. Insperia Knowledge Campus, Siliguri, Arena Animation, Siliguri. He has been on the recruitment board of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission. He is also a paper setter and examiner of photography at the university level.

Today many of his students are very well established in the field of photography and they all admire him and seek his blessings.

In 2019 the iB Hubs selected him as one among the 30 Super Teachers from 30,000+ teachers from all over the country. He was felicitated on the 19th October 2019 at Hyderabad.

He actively works for propagating and creating awareness of photography. He is into organizing Int. Photo. Salons since 2015. One of the highly reputed salons "Pictura" is his creation.

To mark the completion of two decades of the School of Fototechnik he has taken the initiative to spread photography to different parts of the country in 2018. Today there are three centers of the institute at Siliguri, Imphal, and Coochbehar apart from the headquarters in New Delhi. With the restrictions of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in 2020 he started On-line Theory Classes, Celebrated the “World Photography Day” through an International Webinar on the History of Photography. The same webinar was repeated by PSA and now it is available in the PSA website for members. Another International Fototechnik Webinar was organized in November 2020 under the title “Indonesia Beauty in Frame” presented by the International Relations Vice-President of PSA Ms Agatha Anne Bunanta. He has been organizing monthly International Fototechnik Webinar from January 2021. 

He is a volunteer of the Photographic Society of America in the capacity of Country Membership Director -India, Member PSA Honors Committee and was the first Country Liaison Officer for India. He is also serving as the Director of the PSA –PID Image of the Year Competition since 2022.
